Dr. Dedric Carter returned to MIT in April of 2006 to serve as the Executive Director of Engineering Outreach Programs after holding positions in higher education and industry. He is an alumnus of the Minority Introduction to Technology Engineering and Science (MITES) program, which he now manages.

After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Master of Engineering degree in Electrical Engineering at MIT, he received his Ph.D. in Information Systems from Nova Southeastern University.

Ms. Erin Salius comes to MIT from Boston University where, in addition to pursuing a graduate degree in English, she taught undergraduate courses in literature and composition. In the summer of 2006, she joined the Office of Engineering Outreach as a Humanities Instructor for the MITES program. Soon after, she took on the full time position of Program Coordinator for the STEM Program.

In addition to coordinating STEM, Erin also manages the new MIT School of Engineering K12 Educational Website and Blog, which will debut in late fall, 2008.

Renee is a senior at MIT, majoring in Brain and Cognitive Science. She first joined the STEM Program after her sophomore year, when she worked as the teaching assistant for the Summer Institute’s Probability and Statistics course. Since then, she has been volunteering as a mentor to one of our Level 2 students. Renee hails from Rogers, Arkansas and she spends her free time listening to lots of different types of music, watching movies and playing DDR. After serving as the Student Coordinator for the STEM Program through next summer, Renee plans to go to graduate school to earn a Ph.D.

Sandy Tenorio joined the Office of Engineering Outreach Programs in November 2002 from the Headquarters of the Laboratory for Nuclear Science (LNS). In addition, Sandy is no stranger to undergraduate and pre-college student contact. Before joining LNS, she spent four years with the Department of Athletics with responsibility for the Intramural Sports Program and MIT Summer Day Camp. Mrs. Tenorio speaks Spanish fluently, and has a reputation for her warmth, efficiency and skill.
