While Stopit email is monitored regularly, even on most weekends, it is not the appropriate place to send email if you feel threatened. If you feel in danger and/or need to report a crime, contact the MIT Police immediately at x3-1212 (617.253.1212).

Common Problems and Solutions

• SPAM
  MIT now offers Spam Screening for MIT email. Read the SPAM FAQ for more spam-related questions and answer. Do not report spam. Use MIT Spam Screening instead.
  
  
• Copyright Infringement
  Unauthorized sharing of copyrighted materials is against the law. Review MIT policy for additional information.
  
  What to Do if You Receive a DMCA Notice
  
  
• Resources for Simulations/Longjobs
  If you run computationally intense jobs, do not use multiple Athena workstations. IS&T offers the Longjobs Service.

Pursuing Disciplinary Charges

To pursue disciplinary charges, you need to work with the Office of Student Discipline directly.

Send email to MIT Stopit if:

• You receive:
  • harassing or offensive email or zephyr messages
  • mass mailings from a member of the MIT community advertising events or sales.
  
  Note: Be sure to forward the full headers when notifying Stopit about an email complaint.
  

• Your password is stolen.
  
  
• You are disturbed by:
  • inappropriate postings to a web page
  • inappropriate behavior in an Athena cluster
  • other behavior that you think may be illegal or against MIT policy or MITnet Rules of Use.
    
    
• You wish to file notification of a claimed copyright infringement.
