The information on this page may be useful to you if you have ever received
unwanted or dubious email. You may be asked to either view and/or forward
to MIT StopIt full headers of email messages you receive. The header
information can be extremely helpful to us in determining from where
a message originated. Follow the instructions below to learn how to view
and forward full mail headers with your mail client. If you are using
a mail client not listed here, please contact the Help
Desk.

Note:
This page contains instructions for both IS&T supported and
non-supported email clients. Currently MS Outlook and Apple Mail
are fully supported by IS&T. |

- Start MS Outlook 2003 and double click the message to get it in its own window.
- Go to the View menu and select Options.
- Right click in the Internet Headers box and choose Select All.
- Right click again in the Internet Headers box and choose Copy.
- Paste the copied text into email to MIT Stopit.
- Start MS Outlook Express and double click the message for display in its own window.
- Go to the File menu and select Properties.
- Click the Details tab to view the header.
- Right click in the Internet Headers box and choose Select All.
- Right click again in the Internet Headers box and choose Copy.
- Paste the copied text into email to MIT Stopit.
Apple Mail
- Start Apple Mail.
- Go to the View menu and select Message and then Long Headers.
- Forward the message, with your complaints, comments and any information you feel would be helpful to MIT Stopit.
- Start Eudora.
- Double click on the message to view.
- Click the blah blah blah button, directly above the message.
This should expand the headers.
- Forward the message, with your complaints, comments and any information
you feel would be helpful to MIT Stopit.
Google Mail (Gmail)
- Click on the More options command near the top
of a message.
- Click on the Show original command near the end
of the list of command options.
- Select all of the text, copy it, and paste it into email to MIT Stopit.
- Log into MIT Webmail.
- Open message by clicking on Subject.
- Click Message Source.
Result: You should now see the full header information.
- Select the entire text, copy and then paste the copied text into email to MIT Stopit.
Mozilla Thunderbird
- Start Mozilla Thunderbird.
- Go to the View menu and select Headers and
then All.
- Forward the message, with your complaints, comments and any information
you feel would be helpful to MIT Stopit.

Pine may not be initially configured to view full headers. |

To set up Pine to view full headers:
- Type M to go to main menu.
- Type S to enter setup screen.
- Type C to configure features.
- Press the space bar to page down until you see:
[] enable-full-header-cmd
- Cursor down to this and type X to set.
- Type E to exit and they Y to accept changes.
- When viewing message, type H to view full headers.
- Forward the message, with your complaints, comments and any information you feel would be helpful to MIT Stopit.
