Leads to one diplomas with both majors listed.
Fourteen subjects as follows:
- One STS Tier I subject**
- One STS Tier II subject
- Five other STS subjects forming a coherent group of study
- STS.091 Critical Issues in STS***
- Pre-thesis tutorial (STS.ThT)
- Thesis (STS.ThU)
- Four subjects related to the historical and social study of science and technology (three of which can be satisfied by HASS GIRs

Students must submit a petition to the Committee on Curricula that indicates the desire to work for this double major. The petition must be approved by faculty advisors in the two appropriate departments before students complete the entire program.

Please note: A second degree option is still available to students who entered MIT during the 2007-08 school year or earlier. Please speak to the STS Academic Officer or Administrator for more information.
* Available to students graduating in September 2009 or later.
** For students who matriculated before Fall 2010, the Tier I requirement can be fulfilled with any STS HASS-D subject.
*** For students who matriculated before Fall 2010, the STS.091 requirement can also be fulfilled by STS.092 (formerly know as the Capstone Seminar in STS Studies).
