This part of the website has two major sections.
"Centers" describes projects involving STS faculty, often in
collaboration with faculty in history and anthropology. STS faculty
have been highly successful in raising funds to support projects
ranging from engineering education to analysis of the digital
divide in the developing world to the pedagogy of physics. These
centers are developed along a model of flexible specialization.
They make relatively modest demands on institute resources; they
fit the specific research interests of various faculty members; and
they grow or not depending on the evolving needs of the STS Program
and of the larger society.
The second section, "Related Programs," describes other academic
and some non-academic organizations in the Boston area which have a
mission related to that of MIT's STS Program. Students, faculty,
and visitors are strongly encouraged to use this extraordinary
network to further their research and education. These multiple
linkages significantly amplify the opportunities afforded to STS
scholars in the Boston area.
