Joseph Dumit
Professor Dumit received his B.A. from Rice University
(Anthropology and Philosophy, 1989) and his Ph.D. from the
University of California, Santa Cruz (History of Consciousness,
1995). He was an NIMH Research Fellow in the Department of Social
Medicine at Harvard Medical School (1995-1997), and a Postdoctoral
Fellow at the Dibner Institute (1997-1998). He is the co-editor of
Cyborgs & Citadels: Anthropological Interventions in Emerging
Sciences and Technologies with Gary Lee Downey (1997), and Cyborg
Babies: From Techno-Sex to Techno-Tots with Robbie Davis-Floyd
(1998). He is the associate editor of the journal Culture, Medicine
& Psychiatry. Professor Dumit is the author of Picturing
Personhood: Brain Scans and Biomedical Identity (Princeton
University Press, forthcoming).
