IS&T is pleased to offer MATLAB free of charge to all registered MIT undergraduate and graduate students.
While MATLAB can be used offline, an Internet connection is required for installation and activation. While installation is possible over any Internet connection (the VPN is not required), the download size of a full MATLAB installation is quite large (up to 5GB on some platforms). For this reason, we recommend a direct connection to MITnet, or another network connection capable of at least 10Mbit download speeds (e.g. Verizon FiOS, Comcast Xfinity, RCN High-Speed).
To begin installing Student MATLAB, you will need to obtain license number and activation code, and then follow the instructions in Hermes:
- Installation Instructions
Google Chrome will not work. Please use Firefox.
License Number and Activation Code (certificates required)
If you require assistance with your MIT Personal Certificate, or are unable to access the "License Number and Activation Code" link above, please contact IS&T.
For all other installation, activation and technical support, please contact The MathWorks. You may visit http://www.mathworks.com/support/ for more information, or call 508-647-7000 (option 2) Monday-Friday 8:30am-8:00pm Eastern time. Please note that you may need to provide your License Number (see above) when contacting Technical Support.
Faculty and staff are not eligible for this license. Licenses can be purchased from IS&T Volume Site-Licensed Software. (requires MIT login)
All members of the MIT Community are eligible to use MATLAB on Athena. For more information on MATLAB on Athena, please see the What Runs Where document.
