As you start preparing for study abroad, the following sections will guide you through the process and will give you the necessary information. We invite you to talk to us not only initially when you become interested in study abroad but also at any time in the preparation process when you are unsure about next steps or need more information. Programs

This section will help you become familiar with the various options for study abroad available to MIT students. Please visit the section when you first start thinking about study abroad possibilities and to prepare for the conversation with us.

Required Steps

The section is a checklist that will help you make sure that you follow all the necessary steps in preparation for study abroad.

Forms

The Forms section gives you a quick reference for all the forms that you will need to fill out before you go abroad. Please read each form carefully and submit them to the appropriate MIT office.

Deadlines

Each study abroad program has its own application deadline. In addition, the Study Abroad and Distinguished Fellowships Office has its own internal deadlines to ensure that students are prepared and that all the relevant MIT offices can be informed in time of students approved for study abroad. The Deadlines section lists the internal deadlines as well as some study abroad program application deadlines.

Transfer Credit

This section addresses some of possible concerns related to transfer credit and explains the process of negotiating transfer credit before leaving for study abroad and after returning to MIT.

Financial Matters

The Financial Matters section helps you prepare from the finances point of view. This includes financial aid matters as well as other money matters.

Housing

This section addresses potential concerns regarding MIT housing after returning from study abroad and gives contact information for the MIT Housing office.

Pre-departure Orientation

The section explains the importance of pre-departure orientation and gives necessary details about the session. All students approved for study abroad must attend the pre-departure orientation.

Health & Safety

This section helps you prepare for study abroad from the health and safety point of view and raises your awareness regarding health and safety abroad.

Special Notes: Premed/Prehealth Students, Study during Senior Year, Summer Study and International Students

This section addresses special concerns that students might have depending on their specific situation or status. For example, if students who are planning to study during their senior year are international students or premed/prehealth, they should review this section before applying to a study abroad program.
