Emergencies and Crises

"Earthquakes, hurricanes, political upheavals, acts of terrorism, and hijackings are only some of the events threatening the safety of Americans abroad. Each event is unique and poses its own special difficulties. However, for the State Department there are certain responsibilities and actions that apply in every disaster or crisis." - U.S. Department of State website http://travel.state.gov/travel/tips/emergencies/emergencies_1212.html . In emergencies and crises please use the U.S. Department of State resources, especially the U.S. Embassy and Consulate resources. Upon arrival, please sign up with the U.S. Embassy/Consulate near you so they know about your presence. This enables them to help you should something unexpected arise. To locate the U.S. Embassy/Consulate nearest to your location, use the U.S. Department of State resources: http://www.state.gov/
