Subject: Northwestern University Freshmen Survey

Every year, Northwestern cooperates with other colleges and
universities in a survey of entering freshmen concerning their
interests, achievements and backgrounds. Your participation in this
project will be directly beneficial to Northwestern, offering guidance
as we plan for the future by comparing your class's responses with the
responses of students who entered Northwestern over the past forty
years, as well as with those across the nation.

This is a unique link assigned to you.  For this reason, it is very
important that you do not share it or forward this e-mail to anyone
else.  The survey takes approximately twenty minutes to complete.
Please take the time to complete all nine sections.  All data from the
survey remain strictly confidential; no one will have access to your
personal data. Only summary data will be reported.  Only with your
permission (survey question #40A), Northwestern will send your name,
address and birthday to the researchers at UCLA so they can contact
you at some later date for a follow-up study. The researchers at UCLA
will release your survey data back to Northwestern with identifying
information only if they have your explicit permission to do so
(survey question #40B). Under no circumstances will your individual
responses be reported. The findings of this survey will be reported on
groups of students in a manner that does not identify individuals.

Please complete the survey by August 25th.  Many members of the
educational community have carefully screened the survey; however, if
you regard any question as inappropriate, you may leave that answer
blank.  If you have any questions about the survey or encounter any
