Subject: Princeton Survey of Freshmen

Dear First Name,

Princeton is cooperating with other colleges and universities in a
survey of freshmen concerning their high school achievement and
involvement, education and career goals, values, attitudes and
beliefs, with the aim of better understanding how students learn and
develop over time.  We hope that you will help us by completing the
survey.  Your responses will give us important guidance as we plan for
the future.

This research is being conducted by the Higher Education Research
Institute (HERI) of the University of California, Los Angeles in
cooperation with the MIT Survey Center, which is hosting the technical
administration of the survey.

We hope that you will help Princeton have a strong representation in
the data that are analyzed in this project.  Toward end of the survey
you will find a number of questions that are specific to Princeton.
Your responses to these questions are of particular interest to us,
and they will help to inform our planning in a number of important
areas. 

All data from this survey remain strictly confidential; no one on our
campus will have access to data that identify you personally unless
you give your explicit permission by answering question 40 of the
survey.

We hope you will consider doing so, since we are interested in
conducting additional studies that involve linking students' responses
with other student data.  Please be assured that we will not to
examine your individual responses to any questions, nor will we report
the findings of this survey in a manner that would identify
individuals.
