Subject: Reminder: 2007 American Freshman Survey


Dear [fname lname],

Congratulations, you have officially completed NSOP.  I hope that your
first week at Columbia has gone smoothly and that you have already
begun to adjust to college life.

As you get to know your new surroundings, we would also like to get to
know you.  You can help us do this by completing the 2007 American
Freshman Survey. The information collected from this Survey will allow
us to know the characteristics of our new students, so that we can
develop programs and improve services while you are here at Columbia.

Last year 82% of incoming first years completed this survey.  We are
hoping that the Class of 2011 can surpass this number!  So far, this
year only 66% of you have completed this survey.  We need your help to
reach the class's goal of 85% participation by taking a few moments to
complete this survey.

Again, the information obtained from the survey will be kept strictly
confidential.  Individual responses are never released. However, when
responding to Question #42, I urge you to give permission to include
your ID number in the data set. This will be the only way that
Columbia researchers can follow up on your progress later.
