Welcome to Georgetown!  As you begin your undergraduate career we ask
that you complete the survey referenced below as part of a national
study of higher education conducted annually by the Higher Education
Research Institute (HERI) at UCLA since 1966.

important that you do not share it or forward this e-mail.

One major goal of this research is to understand first-year students'
experiences and expectations when they enter college.  The study,
which has been approved by the Institutional Review Boards of UCLA and
Georgetown University, is designed to help improve the quality of
college education and thus may benefit current and future generations
of college students.  Results of your participation will also be
directly beneficial to Georgetown since we will be able to compare
responses from students here with the responses of students elsewhere.

When asked near the end of the survey to permit HERI and Georgetown to
use your id number for further research, we strongly encourage you to
say YES.  This will allow us to combine your responses on this survey
with responses from future surveys and to capture demographic
information from the student database here.  This will shorten future
surveys and greatly increase the usefulness of this research.  Your
responses will be used only for research, summarized in the aggregate
only (i.e., not individually identifiable), and kept in the strictest
confidence.  Completion of this survey is voluntary.

There will be two sets of INCENTIVES for survey completers: drawings
for INDIVIDUAL PRIZES (gift certificates to the Tombs and Clyde's
restaurants in Georgetown), and drawings for FLOOR ACTIVITY PRIZES for
the floors with the highest response rates.  In addition to helping
Georgetown by completing the survey, you will be able to increase your
chances of winning one of the prizes for yourself and/or your
residence hall floor!
