Brodhead" Subject: Duke Alumni Survey Dear Jagruti, Many of the outcomes of a college education are not apparent until some time passes after graduation. How your Duke experience affected you and your classmates is a question of great interest to the University's faculty and administration. You are our best source of information about how well your needs were met by the University and how well your years in college prepared you for what lay ahead. The only way we can learn answers to such questions is to ask you. For this reason, Duke is participating in the 2009 Alumni Survey along with 30 other selective colleges and universities through the Consortium on Financing Higher Education (COFHE). COFHE performs research that helps its members remain affordable as well as financially and academically sound. The purpose of this survey is to determine how well the University is serving our students and meeting its overall objectives. Your personal responses will be important both for what you tell us about your experience and in helping us achieve a response rate high enough to provide confidence that the results are representative of your Class. Note that the instrument was designed for individuals who graduated in other Classes as well, so some of the questions provide a range of responses wider than would typically apply if it was designed only for your Class. Within the next week, you will receive an email with the URL and the necessary instructions for completing the survey online. You may be assured of complete confidentiality. No individually identifiable information will be reported in any form. Results from this survey will be shared with University officers, deans, and faculty leaders to assist them in setting priorities and making policy. The Duke coordinator for the project is David Jamieson-Drake, Director of Institutional Research. David's phone number is 919-684-0540, and his e-mail address is david.jamieson.drake@duke.edu. Please contact him if you have any questions. Thank you for considering this request. We value your ideas, and I hope you will complete the survey and submit it at your earliest convenience. Sharing your insights is one of the most important contributions you can make to Duke. Sincerely, Richard Brodhead President Duke University
