From: Jag Patel Subject: MIT Alumni: We Need Your Input Dear Ms Patel: Earlier this month, Sherwin Greenblatt sent you an invitation to participate in an alumni survey. As a member of the class of 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2004 and 2007, we want to know how well you think your MIT undergraduate education prepared you for the future. MIT is conducting this survey along with other members of a group of 31 highly selective colleges and universities. Our participation will provide us with valuable information to compare the post-graduate experiences of MIT alumni to those from a set of similar schools. In 2005, we administered a similar survey to alumni from different classes. From that survey, we learned a number of things including: - 88% of alumni reported being satisfied with their undergraduate education. - 80% said that the benefits they received from attending MIT were definitely worth the financial cost. - Of those who attended graduate programs, two-thirds reported that MIT prepared them very well for graduate school. - More than a quarter of alumni reported that they had changed career fields at least once. - Alumni tend to say that MIT should place more emphasis on teaching, residential life, workforce skills, and moral or ethical development. We hope to gain your perspective on your undergraduate experiences now that some time has passed since you graduated. The survey is voluntary, and you may answer as few or as many questions as you wish. Your responses will be confidential. You may access the survey at your personal web link: [url] Thank you for participating! Sincerely, Jagruti S. Patel '97 Senior Project Manager MIT Office of the Provost
