Welcome [FNAME] [LNAME],

Thank you for participating in the Swarthmore Enrolled Student Survey. The survey is made up of several short sections followed by some demographic questions. The first section asks you to evaluate Swarthmore. The core of the survey then asks about various aspects of your experiences here: your engagement as a student, your interactions with faculty, how much you think you've learned, and what you've done outside of the classroom, including work and extracurricular activities. Your answers are very important to us — they will inform our efforts to improve in the years to come.

The survey is completely voluntary. You may answer as few or as many questions as you wish. Remember your responses will be completely confidential, so please be candid. Survey results will not be reported in any form that would identify an individual. Your participation is very important and greatly appreciated!

As this study is part of a collaborative research effort, your response will be combined with responses from all participating institutions and used by the consortium in its research. A benefit of your participation is that the College can improve its services as it learns more about students' experiences and needs through surveys such as this. The risks associated with completing the survey are minimal. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Alex McClung, Assistant Director in Swarthmore's Institutional Research Office (610-690-2015) or the Swarthmore Institutional Review Board (610-690-5713).

MIT's Web Survey Service has a number of security procedures in place to protect survey data. Individuals are sent email with a unique URL (web address) or access code to enter their survey. All survey responses are submitted over a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connection, establishing a secure connection between the respondent's browser and the web server managed by MIT. MIT's Websurvey Service makes use of facilities provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS takes security seriously, limiting both physical and electronic access to servers provided by AWS to authorized individuals. Information on the security precautions taken by AWS are available here: http://aws.amazon.com/security/. Above and beyond the security precautions taken by AWS, MIT manages the web server. The server is protected by a properly configured firewall and is only accessible to authorized personnel. Furthermore all survey data is encrypted prior to being committed to hard disk storage. For more information about MIT's Web Survey Service and security procedures used, please contacts surveys@mit.edu.

By entering this survey, you are indicating your willingness to participate in this study and to allow us to include your data in our analyses. Your participation from this point is voluntary; refusal to participate in the survey will involve no penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled, and you may skip any questions or discontinue participation at any time without penalty.
