Community Gardens Lottery

2009 MIT Community Gardens Lottery
Open from 11am on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 to 4pm on Wednesday, April 15, 2009.

Plot(s) for MIT Community Gardens will be offered by Lottery only. This automated Lottery system was developed to ensure a fair and equitable means to distribute plots to as many faculty and staff as possible.

Rules & Instructions

ELIGIBILITY: Entry in the Community Gardens Lottery gives an individual with valid MIT certificates a chance to reserve a plot in the MIT Community Gardens.

DATES: The Lottery begins at 11am on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 to 4pm on Wednesday, April 15, 2009. You may enter the Lottery any day/time, 7 days/week, 24 hours/day during the Lottery period.

REGISTRATION: Register for the Lottery on the MIT Community Gardens website. Lottery entries will be accepted by online/web submission only. Entries will not be accepted via mail, fax, phone or otherwise.

PLOT SELECTION: You have the option to choose a plot on the rooftop of the West Garage or plot adjacent to the Albany garage. All garden plots must be in "Earth Boxes" which must be purchased from the MIT Endicott House. The MITEH will be on campus by "the dot" at Building 54 on May 20 and at Kresge on May 21. The MITEH will sell the boxes, complete with soil and fertilizer at a discounted price of $45 (normal retail price is $52 plus soil). They will also have several varieties of vegetables and flowers for sale which we highly encourage you to buy from them to encourage sustainability.

Spaces are limited, but we will try to accommodate each request accordingly. Entering the Lottery is a commitment to utilize the plot if you are selected.

ENTER: Qualified individuals have the chance to reserve a plot for growing plants in one of two locations. Enter the Lottery only once.

CONFIRMATION: After you successfully entered the Lottery, you will receive an automated confirmation notice generated by the website with your selections and confirmation code.

SUBMISSION: You may edit your submission while the Lottery is open. If you need to change your submission, re-enter the Lottery by visiting the MIT Community Gardens website and entering the Lottery again with your MIT Personal Web Certificate.

NOTIFICATION: Lottery winners only will be notified by Tuesday, April 21, 2009, 4:00pm. Those who did not win the Lottery will not be notified.

PLOT ASSIGNMENT: Plots will be assigned randomly based on site location by the MIT Community Gardens Board.  

PURCHASE COMMITMENT: There is no charge to enter the Lottery but entering the Lottery is a commitment to garden this land accordingly if you win. Read the complete Community Garden Regulations at http://web.mit.edu/surveys/garden/CommunityGardenRegulations.pdf
