MIT Swimming "Insanely Fast!"
MIT destroys records, sends large team to NCAAs.
MIT's 400 Medley Relay(Edwards, Carlucci, Varsanik and Snyder) began the record-breaking mayhem, with a stunning victory of 3:22.85, a B-cut and new team record. The same team followed on Saturday with a 1:31.56 victory in the 200 Medley, a decisive NCAA A-cut and another team record. Matt Fuzellier took the 100 Fly with a time of 50.27, a new pool and NEWMAC record as well nearly scoring an A-Cut. Craig Edwards again won and took an A-cut on his 100 and 200 backstrokes. The 800 Free Relay team pf Josiah Rosmarin, Kalvin Kao, Grady Snyder and Craig Edwards broke the varsity record and a B-cut. Based on last years final results at NCAAs, with MIT's current times MIT would place 6th in the Nation. Full Results
Pair of Victories for MIT
Two records set in sprint meet.
The men and women Engineers both recorded wins in November 20's tri-meet over the Babson Beavers and Bowdoin Polar Bears. Senior Captain JP Carlucci set a new MIT record in the 50 breast with a time of 27.4. Not to be outdone, Senior Jonathan Varsanik broke the 1992 50 fly record, finishing the event in 23.2 seconds.
MIT Women defeat Wellesley
Freshman diver Doria Holbrook earns 1st Nationals qualifing score.
With great support from the mens team in the bleachers, the women improved to 2-0 for the season with a decisive 172-122 win over Wellesley College November 17. More.
MIT Women dominate Coast Guard
Men contend with disappointing loss.
"The MIT Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving teams opened their dual meet season on November 13 with a split decision against the Coast Guard Academy. The women's team topped the Bears 146-90, while the men's team fell 91-143."
