Lindsey's career as a backstroke swimmer only began 10 years after her recovery from hitting her head on the wall at the age of five. Lindsey's enjoyment of swimming backstroke greatly increased when she began training indoors and stopped swimming with her head up to avoid the sun. As a distance swimmer, Lindsey has learned to stay away from Kate Thornton's advice after she attempted to sprint her 500 at the 2004 NewMacs Championship because Thornton claimed it would be a "good idea." Lastly, Lindsey also excels as a breaststroker largely due to her coach's encouragement of her "special breaststroke," and despite not swimming it very often because "we don't have enough time for that."
