Overview
The CD was originally produced by the MITApps team, specifically to handle the fall and spring term bottleneck of new students needing the core software applications installed on their computers. This was especially helpful to those who did not have fast internet connections. The CD has since proven itself to be a valuable tool for many others.
Today, most students have access to faster Internet connections both on and off campus. Much of the software students need to use comes pre-installed on their machines, such as recommended browsers and email clients. For next year, the team plans to look at enhancing services to students in terms of software distribution.
The release process includes:
- determine software to be included on the CD
- determine best method of duplication and associated costs
- CD design and logo's
- documentation and readme's
- testing
- distribution
After successful completion of the above the Fall 2005 software CD will be released to the MIT community.
