TSM 5.4 (Mac/Win) Test Plan


Overview

The release project will focus on the TSM backup/archive client for Windows and Macintosh. The main foci of the project will be to develop a customized installer to facilitate the installation and configuration of TSM, and to document the supported usage and features of TSM at MIT.


Scope

The release project will focus on the new installation and upgrade process based on current supported operating systems:

  • Windows Vista Enterprise
  • Windows XP SP2
  • MacOS X 10.4.x (Intel Mac and PowerPC)
  • MacOS X 10.3 (being retired in June 07)

    Not a requirement for this release:
  • Windows XP 64-bit
  • Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

Setting

TSM 5.4 will be tested in the following environments:

  • W92 test lab
  • Release team environments
  • Call center environment

Entry Criteria

  • A customized b1 TSM 5.4 Windows installer was ready Feb 6, 2007
  • A customized b1 TSM 5.4 Mac installer will be ready: (tentatively Feb 16)
  • Internal testing begun on Feb 6, 2007
  • Draft documentation will be ready: Feb 15

Exit Criteria

Testing will end when the following criteria has been met:

  • verification that the installation process functions with supported operating systems
  • verification of requirements/features enabled wtihin the application exists.
  • all bugs and/or defects (if any), have been found and addressed via documentation, stock answers and vendor intervention.

  1. Installer testing
    1. Test upgrade path on XP from TSM Win 5.2
      1. Successful installation
      2. nodename/server settings preserved
      3. Includes/excludes preserved

    2. Test clean, new installations on XP and Vista
      1. Successful installation
      2. Logging in using new nodename

    3. Check Help Menu

  2. Scheduler installation
    1. Scheduler service installed
    2. Schedule Log created

  3. Backup/Restore
    1. Backup
      1. manual
      2. scheduled

    2. Restore
      1. to default location
      2. to other location (i.e., desktop)

  4. Archive/Retrieve

Mac OS X 10.4 Test Execution

  1. Installer testing
    1. Test upgrade path from TSM Win 5.2 and 5.3
      1. Successful installation
      2. nodename/server settings preserved
      3. Includes/excludes preserved
      4. If upgrading from 5.2.5, verify launchd plist file is removed
        (/Library/LaunchDaemon/localhost.etc.rc.dsmcSched.plist)

    2. Test clean, new installation
      1. Successful installation
      2. Logging in using new nodename

    3. Check Help Menu
