Vista Release Kick-off meeting
March 30, 2006
Attendees:
Deb Bowser, Jonathan Hunt, Alex Kozlov, Albert Willis, Richard Edelson, Paul Dzus, Chuck King, Fred Baars
Identified the areas of impact on MIT community
Existing applications backward compatibility: generation of personal certificates does not work, 64-bit support?, Oracle applications, Citrix applications?
How many versions of Vista will MIT support? Microsoft plans for six versions to be released
40% increase in number of group policy settings on Vista machines (power management);
Licensing: MIT will keep Microsoft Site License agreement which will allow to get Vista for MIT community with no additional cost; currently students are allowed to get two downloads of XP and can keep a copy of XP after graduation from MIT
Upgrade to Vista vs new machines coming to MIT : hardware aspects of upgrade (old machines might not support Vista requirements, need DVD-ROM for installer on DVD media); support for upgrade
We have to set right expectation for the end users; tell our customers what works and what does not and what application upgrades exist for Vista
What project tool should we use for testing?
Two main areas of testing: applications compatibility & operating system functionality
use SWRT test matrix for applications testing
use vista-release group certificate for all documentation published (product release notebook, matrix)
Get Vista media from SWRT of through MSDN subscription, insure that the same version is used for testing
Meet every 3 weeks on Thursday at 1:00 PM
