Vista Release meeting

-          Updates on Microsoft meeting last Friday

-          Vista upgrade scenarios

Action Items:

 

 

Jonathan provided an update on last Friday meeting with Microsoft:

 

-          MIT will get an Enterprise version of Vista via Campus License Agreement; Enterprise version has virtualization component but no Media Center; Microsoft recommends to buy this component via Student Select Licensing  on Govconnection;

-          Media center has DVD-codec and remote control TV connect components

-          There are potential issues with mandatory activation via Internet, key recovery for BitLocker

 

-          MIT can get  access to on-line learning , part of Microsoft e-learning library, via Campus Agreement Software assurance; Richard will follow up with Microsoft on how to get access

 

-          Encryption of setup code for installation keys has to be tested once we get RTM version of Vista; Richard will take a lead on this

 

-          MIT will get Office 2007 Enterprise (not Professional) being shipped on the same date with Vista; Office has potential backward compatibility issues with xml formats and new apps;

 

-          Documentation team will work on setup instructions for Windows Mail

 

-          Testers should test Windows Mail component of Vista; Alex can provide test mail accounts

 

-          Esther is working on documentation for Vista and provided a list of items and questions to work on

 

-          Certificate generation is still an issue; Quing is working with Microsoft to resolve it
