Agenda adjusted to add time
for discussing documentation needs.
1. Activation/Distribution -
Much simpler than originally feared. We
will for the general audience not need to distribute any key, just the media.
Properly configured machines
(DHCP or static IP with correct DNS info) will activate on campus automagically.
Machines off campus will need to connect in via VPN and activate via
Control Panel.
Also, not mentioned at
meeting but really important, Vendors, like Dell, will have 12 months before
they have to start shipping
This is in comparison to
something like 30 days for when Windows XP was released.
2. Known Issues - We listed
the major (and some minor) issues, the problem and next steps
MAJOR ISSUES - CORE (i.e.
affects nearly everyone)
TSM - current beta versions
do not backup in
Virus Scan
Certificates - the domain
machines will be fine because GP can push out MITCA into the Trusted Root and
add certificate generation server to Trusted website list Non-domain machines
still require additional user action (either to put the MITCA in the correct
place and add cert gen server to Trusted Websites OR to run
program that does it for them) before being able to generate certificates
VPN - still in beta for
No idea when Cisco will
release
Test latest beta (Jon will
distribute)
MAJOR ISSUES - NOT CORE
(i.e. affects some non-trivial audience, e.g.
business customers)
Kerberos for Windows - KfW 2.6.5 has install problem with UAC. Once installed (by turning off UAC) works for
everything we've tried so far.
KfW 3.1 just released by kerb-dev not tested yet, but not expected to fix Vista
problems Expect KfW 3.2 (not sure on current target)
to work with Vista and 64-bit operating systems Test KfW
3.1 installation on Vista Test KfW 3.1 functionality
Document work arounds as necessary
SAPgui 6.40 has functionality
problems with
SAP scheduled to release
version 7 in Jan/Feb for Vista Wait until we have the next version to test and
work with
Printing - TCP/IP direct
printing to printers has worked for everyone who has tried KLPR is end of lifed by ISDA NIST is spinning up a new Windows based
printing server in Spring 07
MINOR ISSUES - NOT CORE
(i.e. affects some non-trivial audience, e.g.
business customers)
CITRIX - no official version
for
Current XP based version
works, but warns of incompatibility
OpenAFS - newer build is supposed
to work with
MINOR ISSUES - SMALL
AUDIENCES
Sonic DVD burning software
that ships with Dells incompatible - check in with Dell for newer version or
other solution
Wireless Driver on Dell D610
laptops does not work after waking from sleep - check in with Dell for solution
TRAINING - Jeff collected
some information from the group and will write it up. He and several members of the release team
have conference calls scheduled with 2 primary external training vendors to see
what they can do for us.
