FAQ

When was the club founded?

The club was founded in January 2003 by Lesley Frame '04 and Tenley McHarg '04 during the Independent Activities Period. We are currently in our third year. We are an evolving team and always looking for new members.

New to the Sport?

Don't worry. Many of us never did synchro before coming to M I T. We will teach you everything you need to know... just stop by a practice and we will be more than happy to teach you the basics.

How often do you practice?

Although we practice year-round, our peak season is from January to March. This is when we learn our routines before competitions in February and March. During this time we practice about three times a week in the water and have one landdrill where we work out the rountine on land. Practice usually lasts 1 or 1.5 hours, and we always put schoolwork priorities before synchro. Other times of the year we practice about twice a week.

What do your routines consist of?

They are a mixture of dancing and swimming, all synchronized to music. We pick our the music and choreograph ourroutines.

How many competitions are there?

We usually go to about four per year, but it completely depends on what the team feels like doing. Competitions have no divisions or classes, and teams of all levels compete in the same set of events. At nationals you can potentially compete alongside swimmers in training for the Olympics.

Okay, you just have to tell me... who designs your suits?

Victoria's Mom designs them each year and sews them for us. Click here to see more swimsuit designs.

When do you practice?

It varies by semester and depends on how our schedules work out. To get our current practice schedule, just email us at synchro@mit.edu

Is your team varsity?

No. And there are no tryouts. All you need is motivation.

How can I be added to your email list for new interested swimmers?

Just send an email to synchro@mit.edu asking to be added to our newcomers list and we'll send you information about practices.
