Any standalone boot media required must be easy to write.

Install media generally has to be bootable. Unless a Unix-like kernel can be included on the media, this means all Unix programming knowledge is of no help, and a lot of hardware-specific code must be written. Relying on the assistance a vendor's engineer leaves us without anyone on site who understands it, and puts us in a precarious position should that engineer leave the company.
