Abstract:

Secure authentication via the WWW is becoming increasingly important to MIT. Applications are being developed that rely on support in Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer for SSL and X.509 user certificates, but these WWW browsers do not provide a text-only interface for speech synthesis or use over dialup. Lynx is the most popular text-only browser. Patches are available for Lynx to support SSL but not user certificates. This project, lynx-cert, will add user certificate support to Lynx with functionality comparable to that of Netscape Navigator.
