Dr. Amit Goyal

Dr. Amit Goyal is Task Manager and Leader for Superconducting Materials Research in the Metals & Ceramics Division at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He is an ORNL Distinguished Scientist / Staff Member and a Battelle Distinguished Inventor. Dr. Goyal is widely regarded as international leader in the broad field of advanced materials. He is the lead inventor of a prominent process to fabricate high performance superconducting wires. The process involves epitaxial growth of high temperature superconductors on rolling-assisted-biaxially-textured substrates (RABiTS). He has 50 issued patents, comprising 46 US patents and 4 international patents. He was named a "Battelle Distinguished Inventor" in 2003. Several US companies have licensed the RABiTS technology and hope to have commercial production in a few years.

Dr. Goyal has received numerous internal and external, national & international awards of excellence including the 1999 Massachusetts Institute of Technology's, Technical Review, TR100 Award, and the 1996 Department of Energy's (DOE) Materials Science Award for technical achievement in Solid State Physics. In addition to being on the editorial boards of several reputed journals, he has also co-edited six books on high temperature superconductors. Dr. Goyal received an executive MBA from Purdue University in 2003, a PhD in Materials Science & Engineering from the University of Rochester, NY in 1991, an MS in Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering from the University of Rochester, NY in 1988 and a Bachelor of Technology in Metallurgical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur , India in 1986.

Dr. Yagyensh Pati

Dr. Yagyensh Pati is a private investor and startup consultant based in Woodside, CA. He is involved in investing and working with technology startup companies. He worked at Stanford University from 1992 to 1995 as a research associate in the area of control and signal processing related to semiconductor manufacturing. From 1995 to 1996, Dr. Pati held an Assistant Professorship at Harvard University in the Division of Engineering and Applied Sciences. In 1995, Dr. Pati co-founded Numerical Technologies, Inc., which was a semiconductor manufacturing technology and software company. He served as the CEO of this company, which was the world’s leading provider of sub-wavelength lithography-enabling technology for semiconductor device manufacturing. Dr. Pati was instrumental in generating revenues of $50 million and the growth of the company to about 300 employees before its acquisition by Synopsys Inc. in 2003.

Dr. Pati has been affiliated with a number of companies including Innovative Silicon (Lausanne, Switzerland), W&W Communications (Sunnyvale, CA), and Verisilica (Los Altos, CA), in which he has served among the Board of Directors. In addition to his successful business career, Dr. Pati has also been closely involved with his alma mater, the University of Maryland, College Park. Dr. Pati has delivered several invited presentations, chief among them being the Graduation commencement speech, College of Engineering, University of Maryland Dec. 2001, and a plenary lecture at the International Symposium on Quality in Electronic Design, 2002. Dr. Pati graduated from the University of Maryland at College Park with BS, MS, and Ph.D degrees in Electrical Engineering in 1986, 1988, and 1992, respectively.
