Executive summary: It works! More detailed exposition: I logged into athena.dialup.mit.edu, and got BOLOGNESE.MIT.EDU. Using /mit/modem/decmipsbin/kermit.new, with the following settings: set window 5 set receive packet 1024 set send packet 1024 set block-check 3 set parity none set flow none (on the dialup) set flow rtscts (on my Linux box) set terminal bytesize 8 set command bytesize 8 I then tried sending and receiving an 135,257 byte file. (/etc/termcap on the Decstation), and it worked. Using the above settings, I got the following statistics. Effective data rates of 1433 cps and 1389 cps are quite good, considering that the modem connection was 14.2 kbps. - Ted From BOLOGNESE -> my Linux box files: 1 characters last file : 134787 total file characters : 134787 communication line in : 148834 communication line out : 2375 packets sent : 296 packets received : 296 damaged packets rec'd : 0 timeouts : 0 retransmissions : 0 parity : none 8th bit prefixing : no locking shifts : no window slots used : 1 of 5 packet length : 512 (send), 512 (receive) compression : yes [~] (2481) block check type used : 3 elapsed time : 94 sec transmission rate : 19200 bps effective data rate : 1433 cps efficiency (percent) : 74 From my Linux box -> BOLOGNESE: files: 1 characters last file : 134787 total file characters : 134787 communication line in : 1995 communication line out : 142963 packets sent : 283 packets received : 284 damaged packets rec'd : 0 timeouts : 0 retransmissions : 0 parity : none 8th bit prefixing : no locking shifts : no window slots used : 5 of 5 packet length : 512 (send), 512 (receive) compression : yes [~] (2481) block check type used : 3 elapsed time : 97 sec transmission rate : 19200 bps effective data rate : 1389 cps efficiency (percent) : 72
