General Institute Requirements

As part of the General Institute Requirements (GIRs), all MIT students are required to complete two semesters each of Calculus and Physics, and one semester each of Chemistry and Biology. As a Terrascope student, you fulfill these requirements by taking mainstream subjects according to your background and interest.

7.014 Introductory Biology

Although Terrascope students may elect to take 7.012, 7.013, or 7.014 in order to fulfill the Biology component of their Science Core requirement, 7.014 is especially well-designed for Terrascope students. The subject represents an application of “the fundamental principles [of introductory biology] toward an understanding of microorganisms as geochemical agents responsible for the evolution and renewal of the biosphere, and of their role in human health and disease.”
