The Northeast Chapter of the Society for Ethnomusicology will hold its annual meeting on Saturday, March 4th at Tufts University, Alumnae Hall, Talbot Avenue, Medford, MA from 9:00 AM.

Call for Papers

Proposals are invited in the following categories:

  • A single Paper, 20 minutes in length.
  • A panel on one topic.
  • A formal or informal roundtable on one topic. The coordinator should submit an abstract of the subject and a list of panelists.
  • A performance or lecture-demonstration, up to one hour long.
  • A film or video program

Submition Guidelines

Each presenter must submit the following:
  • An abstract of 250 words outlining the content of the paper or panel etc.
  • Mail, fax, or email this abstract, with a list of equipment needed for the presentation. Include a cover sheet to the attention of the Program Committee chair:

The NECSEM Conference will be held in Alumnae Hall on Talbot Avenue (off of College Avenue).

Parking:
Weekend parking on campus is free. The preferred lot is off of College Avenue just prior to Talbot Avenue (as you drive away from Powder House Rotary).

Directions to Alumnae Hall:
From the west: Routes 2, 3, 9, Interstate 95, or west via the Massachusetts Turnpike (Interstate 90), exit onto Route 128 (a.k.a. Interstate 95), and proceed to its intersection with Route 2. Proceed east on Route 2 to the Junction of Routes 2 and 16. Turn left onto Route 16 east (Alewife Brook Parkway) . Follow Route 16 through two full traffic lights. Take the next right, a sharp turn, onto Powderhouse Boulevard. Proceed to Packard Avenue, the third left. Take a right on Talbot Avenue. Alumnae Hall is located at the end of the street on your right (next to Aidekman Arts Center). Park either in the diagonal parking in front of the building or in the parking lot located just below Aidekman off of College Ave.

From the north via interstate 93: Get off at exit 32, Medford Square. Follow the exit ramp, Proceed to the center of the square, turn left onto Main Street. Follow Main Street straight for approximately 3/10 of a mile. Turn right onto George Street, then left onto College Avenue. Follow College Ave. through its intersection with Boston Ave. (just over the railroad bridge); go past the Memorial Steps and turn right on Talbot Avenue.

By MBTA Bus (from Cambridge) Take the no. 96 bus towards Medford Square. After you pass the Powderhouse Rotary (after Davis Sq.)--you will see the Tufts playing fields to your left. Get off at the next stop (Talbot Ave).

By the MBTA Train (subway): Take the red line outbound (towards Alewife) and get off at Davis Sq. Station. Get out at the College Ave exit and you can either walk from there to Tufts (continue down College Ave until you get to the Powder House Rotary--walk across and continue on College Ave--the Tufts playing fields are on your left. Talbot Avenue is the first left after the parking lot.
