Currently in Tanzania wheelchair accessibility is limited and the disabled face much discrimination, often hindering them from participating fully in social life. For example, bus drivers frequently refuse to let wheelchair users board their buses because the wheelchair takes up too much space. Perhaps even more astounding than that is the fact that less than 3% of people in Tanzania who need a wheelchair have access to one!
This summer I had the amazing opportunity to spend two months in Tanzania working with local wheelchair workshops on improvements for their current designs. I invite you to explore this website to find out more about my project and how you can help.
