Thibault Le Guen

I am currently a MBA student in College des Ingenieurs in Paris. I am as well working part time for Reseau Ferre de France , the owner of all the railways in France in the Strategy Department. In my job, I am modeling the trafic and determining the best way of allocating a slot to a given train. Before CDI, I spent two years at MIT in the Operations Research Center. I was working with Georgia Perakis from the Sloan School of Management in the field of Revenue Management and Pricing. I got my Master in Operations Research in September 2008. I also did a Master's Degree (M.S) at Ecole Centrale Paris in Industrial Engineering. Before that, I went to Classes Preparatoires in Lycee Henri IV in Paris, France. I am interested in mathematically modeling decision-making problems that arise in areas where mathematical analysis and optimization can have a significant impact. In particular, I like tackling real world problems through quantitative analysis. I will be on the job market this summer. • At MIT, I was a research assistant affiliated with the Operations Management Group. More precisely, my research was on dynamic pricing under uncertainty using the data available to a manager directly. It adresses important and practical issues behind the problem, connecting with the fact that managers, in order to price a product, need to achieve two goals: determine the right behavior of the customer, as it connects to the price they set and optimize their profit. • In Centrale Paris, I got involved in several research projects. In my first year, in collaboration with Electricité de France (EDF), we studied the feasibility of implantations of marine current turbines in France. Our work (in French) has been used by EDF for the design of its first prototypes. I also modeled the effects of wind on the Millau bridge in Southern France. You can find the final report (in French) here. During my second year, we worked on a project studing the effect of a drought on the structure of a building. This study was very enjoyable for me as it cumulated experimental and theoretical parts as well as a lot of real-world applications. • In 2007, I took advantage of the MIT-Mexico program and went to Monterrey, Mexico during the summer, where I worked for Gruppo Quimmco. I created a model to exploit the synergies between the firms of the group to buy raw materials. Moreover, I proposed a new formula for the purchase cost of steel, indexed on the Chicago stock exchange. The formula was implemented and reduced this purchase cost by 30%

• I spent the Summer of 2006 in Dillingen an der Donau, Germany. I was working within the Engineering Department of BSH , a joint venture between Bosh and Siemens. The goal of my internship was to increase the productivity of the belt by adding new packaging machines. I also worked on improving the working conditions of the operators by redesigning their working process. My suggestions were implemented and improved the productivity tremendously.
  

• During the Summer of 2005, I was in Dagenham, UK working for Sanofi Aventis in their distribution center. It was a great way of getting accustomed with Inventory Management, use software such as SAP and even get my driving license for fork-lift trucks.
  

Being a bit nostalgic of my experiences overseas, I started a blog to keep in touch with my friends overseas. Is is still in construction.
