Jennifer French joined TLL as a Postdoctoral Associate in April 2011. She is working on curricular materials in mathematics for the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD).
Jennifer received her B.S. in mathematics, with a minor in physics, from the University of Washington in Seattle in 2005. She received her Ph.D. from MIT in 2010 studying mathematics, with a focus in Algebraic Topology.
Prior to joining TLL, she wrote and edited math content for Shmoop, an educational non-profit based in California, whose aim is to provide entertaining, accurate, and low-cost homework help, test-prep, and teacher resources at the high school level.
In collaboration with Prof. Gigliola Staffilani of the MIT Department of Mathematics, Jennifer began and currently teaches an after-school program at one of the public elementary schools in Cambridge. The goal of the program is to introduce the basic elements of problem solving, create an awareness that there are math problems with many solutions and with no solutions, and foster an environment where math is fun, approachable, and interactive. Jennifer also enjoys tutoring local students to solidify and strengthen their math abilities in her spare time.
