Day 6

On day 6 we visited the Natural Energy Laboratory of Hawaii (NELHA). The lab's technical director is Dr. Tom Daniel who is an MIT alumnus. He introduced us to Dr. Wilkins, who spoke about freshwater input to the ocean and to Professor Steve Masutani who discussed the political implications of the CO2 sequestration experiment being conducted in NELHA's water corridor. We visited on-site aquaculture ventures. They are using the nutrient-rich deep ocean water that is continually being pumped to feed their crops.
