2005 MIT Practice Triathlon

RESULTS : PICTURES

The fourth annual practice triathlon will be held on April 30th, 2005. This event is open to all MIT affiliates (students, faculty, spouses, alumni) with a valid athletic card and who are members or are interested in becoming members of the Triathlon Club. We will be checking the weather, and if it is bad (rainy), we will cancel the bike portion turning it into a duathlon, but hopefully roads will be safe and clear. Practice starts at 8:00am, come early (at least by 7:45am) to set up your transition area. Meet in front of the Johnson entrance to the Z-center and we'll direct you from there. Remember to bring a helmet with your bike. Bring a dry set of clothes for afterwards. We're looking forward to seeing you there!

The cycling route is as follows: Amherst Alley -> right onto Mass. Ave south -> right onto Beacon St. right after crossing the river -> Left onto Park St. after going over the Pike -> stay right to get onto Riverway road, which becomes Jamaicaway -> Stay on Jamaicaway until after Jamaica Pond -> right onto Pond st after rotary -> right onto Goddard st -> right onto Cottage, becomes Perkins -> left onto Jamaicaway -> IMPORTANT: left onto Longwood st. in the medical area -> immediate right onto Chapel, becomes Carlton -> right onto Beacon st -> through Kenmore Sq. turn onto Commonwealth -> left on Mass. Ave -> left on Amherst, and back to transition area.

We will do our best to post signs (on white paper, with MITri logo) at the turns, but please familiarize yourself with the route (riding it at least once beforehand would be ideal)

Run route :

This will be a slightly modified Harvard-BU bridge loop. After the bike, we will run out straight to the river (Danforth St. between McCormick and Green Hall). Take a right, cross Memorial Dr. whenever safe. Cross the river at the BU bridge (first one you will come to), and make an immediate left down the stairs after crossing the bridge. Run east by the BU campus to the footbridge, cross Storrow dr using the footbridge, and then run East to the Mass. Ave bridge on the paved path. Take the ramp up to Mass. Ave, cross the river back to MIT, and (IMPORTANT) run up to the 77-Mass Ave crosswalk. Turn left, and run to the finish (in front of student center and back to the transition area). That's it!!
