About Us: Confidentiality Statement

Student Support Services is committed to preserving the confidentiality of communications between students and its staff and generally will not share information disclosed during meetings. However, there may be times when information needs to be shared with MIT faculty or staff, parents, or health care providers. In these cases, every effort will be made to first consult with the student and seek his/her permission.

Examples

Examples of when information might be disclosed without permission include circumstances where a student presents a serious threat to the health or safety of himself/herself or someone else; a student reports abuse of another; or information is required by law to be released. Because transparency and mutual understanding are critical to a successful relationship between S3 staff and students, we encourage students to ask any questions they may have concerning the scope of confidentiality.
