This section provides advice on how to design your own academic program within MIT's major and minor programs. The key is planning.
It's possible to go through MIT selecting subjects semester by semester, but in order to maximize your options, you need to think ahead. The decisions you make in one semester can impact what you can do in the future.
In order to plan, you need to assess your goals and interests. You also need to know what requirements you have to complete and what opportunities are available.
The challenge and fun is to figure out how to combine all the subjects you have to take with all of the subjects you want to take, and still graduate in four years.
