Registering

Shortly before Registration Day, the Registrar's Office will send your paper registration form to your advisor. This form includes your pre-registered subjects, class schedule, and address information.

Note: Your advisor will not receive registration materials for you if you have been placed on a registration hold for non-academic reasons or if you've withdrawn or taken a leave of absence. Read more about Holds.

In preparing for registration, you and your advisor will generally review your progress in fulfilling the General Institute Requirements and the departmental requirements for your degree. If you intend to receive an SB degree, you must be sure to complete a Bachelor of Science Degree Application on WebSIS at the beginning of the term that you expect to graduate.

At your registration meeting, your faculty advisor should discuss your proposed program, and any changes that you wish to make to your registration form before you both sign and submit the form. Your registration form represents the agreement you have made with the department about your program of study for the term. In signing the registration form, you are acknowledging responsibility for any changes for that term.

You must turn in your Reg form promptly. On Registration Day, turn in your signed form at the registration site listed in the Registration Instructions on WebSIS. If you are turning in the form before or after Registration Day, submit it to the Student Services Center. To avoid a late fee you must turn in the form no later than the Friday of the first week of the term.

If you are a sophomore and wish to designate a subject as Exploratory, you use a special form available on WebSIS rather than making this designation on your registration form. Read more in the Grades section or the Academic Guide.

The typical undergraduate load, based on a four-year program, is 45 to 54 units per term (four or four and one-half subjects). However, with the approval of your faculty advisor, you may take a heavier or lighter load. If you carry a registration load of fewer than 36 units in the fall or spring term (not including Listener or ROTC subjects) you are considered to be less than full-time. This may affect financial aid, loan deferments, compliance with immigration regulations, eligibility for varsity athletics, and external health insurance requirements. Read more about registration load on WebSIS.

If you wish to enroll in a Physical Education class, be sure to complete your PE Registration by the given deadline for the quarter.

It is your responsibility to carefully review your Status of Registration report on WebSIS to make sure that it accurately reflects your subject registration and, if it does not, to make the necessary change in registration by the appropriate deadline. You can also use WebSIS to check your Institute requirement audit, student account status, financial aid status, and address information.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Be sure to keep copies of your original registration form, as well as, any add/drop forms submitted for changes in your registration after Registration Day.
