Are you interested in helping your fellow man? Do you have skills that you'd be willing to share with others on campus, those in the surrounding Boston/Cambridge community, or those in developing nations?

If so, consider seeking out community service and volunteerism opportunities.

The following information and links should prove helpful in your search for the community service activity that's right for you.

  • Public Service: The Public Service Center (PSC) provides opportunities for you to experience the personal rewards of community service. As a freshman, you may have participated in City Days during Orientation, which is an annual city-wide community service event, but don't let your community service experience end there. Consider participating in City Days now that you are an upperclassmen or join in one of the wide range of volunteer and community service activities throughout the academic year. If you're interested in public service, consult PSC staff for programming information, guidance, and support. The PSC also has many opportunities for students seeking funding for public service projects.

  • Service Learning: Service learning at MIT is a joint partnership between the Edgerton Center and the Public Service Center (PSC). The aim of service learning initiatives is to integrate community service projects into the MIT curriculum, engaging students in projects to aide communities in need. If you would like to put your science and engineering skills to use in order to benefit humanity, consider getting involved with a service learning project today. • Community Service through Your Fraternity or Sorority: A number of fraternities and sororities organize community service and volunteer projects to help the greater Boston community. For information on becoming involved in such activities, consult leaders within your house or staff in Student Life Services.
