


The game of floorball was invented in Sweden
a couple of decades ago, and over the past decade, it has become the most
popular sport in the country. It's a
fast hockey-like game, played using fiber-composite sticks and a light ball. There
are professional, as well as amateur leagues in many European countries; most
of them in Sweden, Finland and Switzerland. The official format of
the game is five players + a goalkeeper on each team. The goalkeeper has no
stick, and the goal is about the size of an ice hockey goal.
No body- or stick- checking is allowed.
At MIT, the game is played four-on-four, using smaller goals
usually with no goalkeepers. We have larger goals to use when goalkeepers play!
