The game of floorball was invented in Sweden
a couple of decades ago, and over the past decade, it has become the most
popular sport in the country. It's a
fast hockey-like game, played using fiber-composite sticks and a light ball. There
are professional, as well as amateur leagues in many European countries; most
of them in Sweden, Finland and Switzerland. The official format of
the game is five players + a goalkeeper on each team. The goalkeeper has no
stick, and the goal is about the size of an ice hockey goal.
No body- or stick- checking is allowed.
At MIT, the game is played four-on-four, using smaller goals
usually with no goalkeepers. We have larger goals to use when goalkeepers play!
If you would like to try it out, contact the floorball club for more information.
