Amgen-UROP Scholars
Program Associates

MIT students selected to be Amgen Scholars may, in addition to engaging in research, be invited to assume leadership roles as Program Associates.  These positions will provide a leadership and mentoring opportunity for MIT students. All MIT students admitted to the Program will be invited to interview for these positions; two will be selected.

Students assuming these roles must be committed to providing peer support to fellow Amgen Scholars, particularly those visiting from other colleges and universities. In addition, Program Associates will develop and host a series of networking and social events for all Amgen Scholars at MIT, and will assist program staff in organizing educational activities, including weekly lunches and the end-of-program poster session.

Program Associates and will be compensated $1,000 beyond their research wages.

Responsibilities of the Program Associate

Program Associates will:

  • Organize a robust program of networking events and social activities throughout the nine-week period, which may include weekend day trips to Boston and areas within New England.

  • Provide general support and advice to Scholars visiting from other institutions, and refer them to on-campus resources.

  • Assist program staff with the development and organization of educational activities, including a luncheon seminar series and an end-of-program poster session.

All MIT students accepted into the Amgen-UROP Scholars program will be invited to interview for a Program Associates position. Interviews with UAAP staff will be scheduled during the first two weeks of April. Questions regarding the Program Associate positions and the interview process may be directed to program staff at (617) 253-7306, or amgen-scholars@mit.edu.

Two MIT Amgen Scholars will be invited to assume these roles, and an orientation will be provided prior to the start of the Program.
