UROP
Guidelines for
MIT Students
Below
you will find
information
on the guidelines
that you must
follow in
order to participate
in a UROP.
NOW THAT YOU'VE
FOUND A
UROP
- Submit
your evaluation(s) from
your most
recent
UROP.
- With your
UROP faculty
supervisor,
choose direct
funding,
supervisor
funding,
credit,
or volunteer.
- Write
a UROP research proposal describing
your planned
research
activities
for the
semester.
- Submit an online UROP application. See MIT/CME Online Applications for the access URL to your UROP student homepage and complete instructions on the online application process.
- UROP applications cannot be processed by UROP staff, until both your UROP
faculty
supervisor
and the
department/lab
UROP coordinator have approved your application either via the new online system or a hard-copy form that you print for signatures (from the online system) and submit to UROP in staff by the given deadline for the term.
- No approvals,
timesheets,
or paychecks
will be
issued until
all required materials
have been
received
and approved.
- You may
not receive
credit and
pay for
the same
project
during the
same term.
- You may
not receive
supervisor
funding
and direct
funding
for the
same project
during the
same term.

FOR CREDIT
See the UROP Deadlines page for all current UROP deadlines. Applications are due to UROP no later than 5PM on the given deadline date. In addition,
YOU MUST REGISTER FOR YOUR UROP CREDIT BY DROP
DATE, OF THE GIVEN TERM.
- Register
for your UROP credit
on your registration form or submit
an
Add/Drop
form to
the Registrar's
Office by Drop
Date (see Academic Calendar).
- To register
for a graded P/D/F
UROP: Add
the subject number (Course#).UR
- To register
for a graded
A/B/C/D/F UROP: Add
the subject
number (Course#).URG
- Graded
credit is
not available
in Course
6 and Course
8 or to
first-term
freshmen.
- Check your status of registration on WebSIS to make sure you are correcctly registered for your UROP
- UROP applications cannot be processed by UROP staff, until both your UROP faculty supervisor and his/her department's UROP coordinator have approved your application either via the new online system or a hard-copy form that you print for signatures (from the online system) and submit to UROP in staff by the given deadline for the term.
- Provided that you have properly registered your UROP credit, your UROP
faculty
supervisor
will be contacting for your grade at the
end of the
term. It
is his/her
responsibility
to return
your grade for reporting to the Registrar's
office.
UROP
FOR PAY
See the UROP Deadlines page for all current UROP deadlines. Applications are due to UROP no later than 5PM on the given deadline date.
- DIRECT
FUNDING
(FUNDS
FROM UROP): The
UROP Program
will fund
up to $1,300
(at $9.25/hour)
for the
term and up to $4,400 per summer (also paid at $9.25/hour).
Applicants
will be
notified
of funding
status via
email within approximately two weeks following the deadline,
provided
all application materials are
complete. Incomplete
applications will delay
the process. Be sure
to review the Awards & Funds page
before you apply to
see if your project
is appropriate for
any of these funding
sources.
- SUPERVISOR
FUNDING:
The minimum
hourly
rate is
$9.25/hr.
and you must enter a
total stipend
amount in
the required
line. This
stipend
is your
overall
expected
earnings but does not
include additional indirect
cost to faculty (OVERHEAD
62%). You will be notified
via email once your appplication is
approved regarding the next steps you need to take to ensure that your UROP payroll is set up properly.
UROP
FOR VOLUNTEER
See the UROP Deadlines page for all current UROP deadlines. Applications are due to UROP no later than 5PM on the given deadline date.
- To participate
in UROP
as a volunteer,
follow the
guidelines
described
above and
submit all
required
paperwork
to UROP
staff in
Room 7-104 by the
due date
above.
- As with credit and volunteer UROPs, approval will not be issued until all required materials are complete.
