UWIP Minutes 5/9/06

The main order of business at the meeting was elections for next year. 
The results:

President: Madeleine Sheldon-Dante
Co-Vice Presidents: Yiwen Chu and Michelle Zimmermann
Treasurer: Mary-Irene Lang
Secretary: Ming Yi

We discussed some possible events to have next year, including meeting 
with female faculty, collaborations with other similar groups, and 
anything involving food. Keep an eye out for announcements about social 
events over the summer.

Congratulations and best wishes to all our graduating seniors! Emily 
Chan will be at Yale, Laurie Burns is going to Stanford, and Anat Burger 
(our outgoing President) is headed for UCSD. If you see them, wish them 
luck (and, of course, to the other seniors who weren't able to make the 
meeting).

The experimentalist comes running excitedly into the theorist's office, 
waving a graph taken off his latest experiment. "Hmmm," says the 
theorist, "That's exactly where you'd expect to see that peak. Here's 
the reason." A long logical explanation follows. In the middle of it, 
the experimentalist says "Wait a minute", studies the chart for a 
second, and says, "Oops, this is upside down." He fixes it. "Hmmm," says 
the theorist, "you'd expect to see a dip in exactly that position. 
Here's the reason...."
