MIT FOOTBALL

This year, MIT football will be celebrating its twenty-fifth anniversary. The Engineers will take the field with strength on both sides of the ball. MIT will be led by veteran head coach Dwight Smith and assitant coach Dick Yule. For this season, Yule will move to the offensive side of the ball taking on the role of coordinator. On the other side of the ball, Chris House reumes his position as defensive coordinator. The offense returns 9 starters including all conference co-captain Keith Battocchi at tight end. The defense returns 8 starters including all conference co-captain Brian Hoying at free safety.

The offense will strive for a balanced attack. The ground attack will feature Sophomore running back Kale McNaney led by fullbacks Junior Dan Relihan and Freshman Ryan Lanphere. In the air, Senior co-captain Alex Karnal will take the helm at quarterback and look to hook up with tight end Keith Battocchi. Karnal will also look to his plush trio of receivers, Junior speedster Phil Deutsch, and Sophomore sensations Tom Kilpatrick and Warren Chia. Paving the way for this balanced attack will be a fierce offensive line. The left side will feature 6'4" Matt Kreuger at tackle and 6'3" Justin Nelson at Guard. On the right side will be 6'2" Keith Reed at tackle and 6'4" Spencer Cross at guard. Anchoring the line is 6'1" Sophomore center Ben Povlich.

For the defense, all conference Senior free safety Brian Hoying will team up with a pair of explosive corner backs in Corey Carter and Mark Boudreau. Returning from injury is Senior linebacker Brent Schrieber. Schrieber brings leadership and experience to an already talented core of linebackers that includes Seniors Danny Lovell and Jerimy Arnold, Juniors Mike Harvey and Mike Terry and Sophomore Phil Zakielarz. The line will featuer Senior defensive end Lars Gronning who will look for help up front from Junior Mark Jury and Sophomore Cody Patrick. The defense will also look to Freshman Kevin Yurkerwich, Brandon Peezly and Brennan Sherry to build a solid squad.
