Prosthetic Eye Augmentations

I've always been fascinated with the notion of replacing perfectly good body parts with superior artifical ones. It would be so cool to do this to the eye; imagine being able to see outside of normal wavelenghts, or have integrated zoom lenses, but with nothing external to the body. Methods to deliver low-resolution visual information to the optic nerve have already been proven. Luckily, I know several people with already-missing eyes who were willing to let me experiment on them, so I didn't have to gouge out my own.
