I've always been fascinated with the notion of replacing perfectly good body parts with superior artifical ones. It would be so cool to do this to the eye; imagine being able to see outside of normal wavelenghts, or have integrated zoom lenses, but with nothing external to the body. Methods to deliver low-resolution visual information to the optic nerve have already been proven. Luckily, I know several people with already-missing eyes who were willing to let me experiment on them, so I didn't have to gouge out my own.
