When the light goes through regular waves from air, it will form periodic diamond structure underwater. The horizontal and vertical dimensions of this structure are found to be governed by the wave parameters (wave length and wave steepness). We use these two dimensions to be the horizontal and vertical scales for underwater irradiance field. Then we analyze the irregular wave and find that dominant wave length can be obtained from the light field. Finally, a critical wave focusing effect valid condition is obtained by letting scattering effect and wave focusing effect to be approximately equal. When wave dimension is beyond the critical value, the wave focusing effect is not important.
