Magnetic Force

This Image and animation portray the magnetic field of two current-carrying rings attached to one another by a spring (for clarity, the spring is not shown). The current in the top ring flows clockwise, while three times as much current flows counter-clockwise in the bottom ring. In the first half of the animation, increasing current creates pressure in the field between the rings, causing them to repel one another. As the current decreases, the restoring force from the spring pulls the rings back to their original positions.
