cook 3.5 cups elbow macaroni. in saucepan, melt .5 cup margarine over low heat. beat in .5 cup flour with wire whisk and continue to beat over medium heat until the roux is smooth and bubbly. whip in 3.5 cups boiling water, 1.5 tsp. salt, 2 Tbsp. soy sauce, 1.5 tsp. garlic powder, and pinch of turmeric, beating well. cook until sauce thickens and bubbles. then whip in .25 cup oil and 1 cup nutritional yeast flakes (get from Bread and Circus or Central Square Market). Mix part of sauce with macaroni and put in casserole dish. pour generous amount of sauce on top. sprinkle top with bread crumbs and paprika, if desired. bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees (preheat oven). can broil for a few minutes at end to make cheese sauce stretchy.
