AR-News and AR-Views (Animal Rights Discussion and News Lists) In the Internet community there is a collection of unmoderated electronic mailing lists for the discussion of the relationships between human and non-human animals. These lists are administered via the Animal Rights Electronic Network (AREN), an organization dedicated to providing mechanisms for the exchange of ideas and information pertaining to the issues of animal rights/welfare. Currently, the collection consists of two lists: AR-views and AR-News. AR-views is an open discussion forum while AR-News is a public news wire For subscription info, see their web site.

FatFree (McDougall/Ornish mailing list) is for discussion about very lowfat vegetarian eating and cooking. For this list, "very low fat" indicates diets with less than 15 percent of calories as fat and "vegetarian" includes milk, eggs, and honey but excludes all meat, fish, and poultry. The primary audience of this list are those who are trying to keep relatively strictly to a very low fat vegetarian eating plan for reasons of health. However, anyone with an interest in very low fat vegetarian foods and cooking is welcome here provided they respect the nature of the list and abide by the posting rules. The default format of this list is a digest. This means the multiple posts are compiled into one long email message. Most folks prefer this format. You should expect to get a digest mailing at least once a day, sometimes more often if traffic is heavy. VEGLIFE is a fairly active list and is available in digest form. It has over 700 people on it from around the world. Fortunately, it is available in digest form, which saves all the messages for the day and sends them to you in one chunk at about 11PM. There are anywhere from 1 to 20-odd messages in a given day. Here's how to order: send to: LISTSERV@VTVM1.BITNET or LISTSERV@VTVM1.CC.VT.EDU Your e-mail body should say: (To subscribe) sub veglife firstname lastname (To start the digest format) set veglife digest Note that you should send two separate messages if you want the digest option; one to subscribe and one to set you on digest (seems an appropriate format for a food list, huh?). There is one other list not mentioned by VEGLIFE for some reason. It is called VEGGIE and has pretty light traffic and does not have a digest that I know of. I think it has around 250 subscribers, also around the world. To get on it, send a message to: veggie-REQUEST@maths.bath.ac.uk. The message can be in regular English because a human, not a machine, will be processing your request (strange but true).
